about us

“Every child is born with their rights” – With the thoughts - Bachpan started in 2001 as a child rights initiative of NIWCYD in state capital Bhopal of Madhya Pradesh. Initially the work started in 10 habitations of slums in Bhopal as child labour initiative and later in 2007, the work was expanded in 10 new places within the slums of Bhopal and this entire project was also linked with Madhya Pradesh Education Campaign. In the year 2004-05, BACHPAN widened its scope from child labour to the children living in and around railways Platforms. In the year 2006, the project started day and night shelters for platform children in Katni and Bhopal. Gradually the project also initiated advocacy for ensuring residential shelter to these children. The advocacy initiatives started yielding result when government accepted that there are children on the railway platforms who are subjected to all forms of exploitation and abuse.
